a very good read
This is an amazing book...
It is a book I am sure I will re-read soon, but much more slowly. Some of the expressions and depictions of Christian spirituality contained in these pages touched me more than probably 80 or 90 percent of the books I've read from the "Christian Living" section of most Christian bookstores. The writing, of course, plays a big part in my appreciation of this, but the ideas (philosophy, beauty) also struck a deep chord in me. I would often find myself stopping to ponder a paragraph or a sentence...and then I'd go back and re-read it.
Yeah, it's golden.
She is great. I have read a collection of essays by her called "The Death of Adam." She is one of the most thoughtful writers that I have read. I will have to pick this book up and give it a read.

I read her other novel, Housekeeping. Although I can't say it was my favorite book, I remember her writing style was beautiful. I've been thinking I'd like to check out Gilead. Good to know it was a good read for you!

My favorite part was the way that she wove the theme of sacrament throughout... John Ames' simple life was full of holy moments.
